Grahamstown Area – Eastern Cape: Our client is looking for a Wildlife Management Assistant to join the team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A Bachelor’s degree in ecology, nature conservation, wildlife management, zoology or a related subject is desirable but not essential
- Proven record of experience with field work and the ability to use heavy machinery and conduct maintenance work is essential.
- In this regard, the post-holder must have:
- At least 1 year experience in field work related to game management, fence maintenance and the use of herbicides.
- At least 1 year experience working with a variety of agricultural and earth moving equipment (chainsaw, tractor, pumps, TLB etc).
- Experience in leading small teams and managing workplans.
SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Knowledge of local fauna, flora, and habitats, species identification skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken Afrikaans and English.
- A basic understanding of Xhosa is desirable.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Experience with technical research equipment (GPS, camera trap, telemetric tracking equipment etc.)
- Firearm competency.
- Must be physically fit.

- Able to work independently in remote areas and spending periods of time in the field under challenging environmental conditions.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Cheetah monitoring.
- Electrified fence status monitoring and maintenance.
- Assistance with wildlife management actions such as wildlife monitoring, hunting, culling, game capture and the implementation of feeding protocols.
- Assistance with the implementation of invasive alien plant control and habitat rehabilitation plans.
- Help with the development and implementation of work plans in coordination with the Wildlife Ecologist and Operational Managers.
- The post-holder will supervise the fence maintenance contract team in collaboration with his/her supervisor.
- Ensure responsible management, maintenance and tracking of technical equipment.
