REGIONAL TECHNICAL MANAGER

Cape Town – WC:  An opportunity exists for an experienced Technical Manager in the transport and agricultural industry. The incumbent will be required to provide in depth technical support to multiple in house heavy vehicle workshops, as well as accurate technical situation reports and formulation and enforcement of best practice operating procedures and company policy. Management of vehicle maintenance costs, formulation of vehicle maintenance budgets and cost management and review is imperative.

The individual needs to be innovative, dynamic and agile.

The position is based in Cape Town and involves extensive travel across Southern Africa.

Education and Experience

  • Formal mechanical training and certification, including advanced technical and or suitable trade qualifications
  • Computer literacy is a pre-requisite
  • Some previous financial exposure preferred
  • Product specific training in relevant fields such as hydraulic, truck manufacturer, engines, drive trains and agricultural machinery
  • An understanding of operating procedures and cost management
  • At least 5 years of workshop management/managerial experience
  • A solid, practical and verifiable technical background in both on road transport and agricultural machinery maintenance and operation

Skills and Knowledge

  • Broad understanding of all technical aspects of a wide range of on and off road machinery
  • Experience in fleet maintenance and management practices
  • Good communication skills at all levels in the organization
  • Will be required to operate independently outside the office environment due to the extensive travel requirements

Key Performance Areas

  • Drive and deliver on going improvements in preventative maintenance practices for all vehicles and equipment in the incumbents region
  • Provide accurate technical reports that provide clear feedback, following problem analysis conducted at contracts
  • Provide detailed component failure reports
  • Implement remedial action and campaigns timeously
  • Assist in controlling and reducing maintenance costs and minimize waste
  • Will be required to operate remotely and independently and use initiative to provide technical assistance and interventions
  • To continuously improve on skills levels and workshop standards so as to maximize fleet availability
  • Continually reduce cost of operation and improve on maintenance standards and efficiencies
  • Will be required to attend formal technical meetings with suppliers to address concerns raised at contracts
  • May need to represent the company’s interests in disputes with suppliers
  • Must be able to communicate clearly internally and externally
  • Innovative thought process and problem solving is required
