LIVESTOCK MANAGER – FM1261

Swartberg Area – KZN: Our client is looking for a Livestock Manager to join the team.

Only candidates with the relevant experience will be considered.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Agricultural Diploma / Degree
  • Minimum of 4 years previous livestock
  • Excellent stockman ship
  • Must have excellent people skills
  • Maintenance and mechanically orientated
  • Clear and efficient record keeping
  • Open, honest communication
  • Must have a hands-on approach and holistic thinking
  • Ability to speak Zulu/Xhosa
  • Computer literate
  • Valid driver’s license

TASKS

  • Weekly stock tally
  • Oversee and check stock sheets
  • Reconcile feed stores with stock sheets
  • Weighing
  • Calf book information & calf tagging
  • Individual numbers of all livestock sold
  • Grazing movement records, incl. level of utilization
  • Cull livestock
  • Monthly & yearly death & sickness report
  • Ration & Electricity – monthly staff register
  • Staff attendance register
  • Invoices – keep and hand over weekly all cash & account invoices
  • Obtain quotes and order materials and tools

TASKS TO PERFORM/OVERSEE

Repairs & Maintenance:

Vehicles

  • Keep vehicles neat and clean
  • Check oil and water levels and tyre pressure
  • Tyre Rotations
  • Services every 10 000km’s

Equipment

  • Servicing of fire fighter, dip & generator, chain saw
  • Supervise tools & stores

Buildings

  • Prioritize maintenance & painting
  • Cattle handling facilities
  • Kraals & crushes

Fencing

  • Maintain & Redo
  • Ensure all gates are chained up and have good latches.

Roads

  • Stone Packing
  • Drain Opening

Water

Maintenance of pumps, pipelines & motors

Supplementary Feed

  • Stocks & stores
  • Supervise correct mixing
  • Feedlot Performance and Feeding
  • Ensure correct mixing of livestock rations
  • Supervise correct feeding of BPP & McCosker Brew
  • Supervise correct feeding of creep feed

Livestock

  • Attend bull and ram sales
  • Oversee animal health
  • Supervise and organize intensive sheep breeding and lambing
  • Weighing and monitoring of livestock ADG”s
  • Supervise correct vaccination implementation
  • Oversee branding & dehorning
  • Weighing
  • Correlated planned grazing moves to animal requirements & give feedback
  • Ensure that animal transfers between herds are correctly recorded & tally

Fire

  • Prevention
    • Strategic grazing
    • Burn Fire breaks
  • Fighting
    • Check list
    • Sufficient equipment in working order
    • Fire equipment maintenance – beaters, nap sacks & fire fighter

Crops

  • Help with the overseeing planting, spraying & harvesting.
