Harrismith Area – Free State: Our client is looking for a Farm Mechanic & Workshop Manager to join the team.
The successful candidate will oversee the maintenance and repair of a diverse range of vehicles and equipment on a farm.
Only candidates with the relevant experience will be considered.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or vocational training in mechanics is a plus.
- Relevant certifications in vehicle and equipment repair are advantageous.
- Qualified diesel mechanic ideally
- Proven experience as a mechanic with expertise in diagnosing and repairing various types of vehicles and equipment, including trucks, tractors, motorcycles, and implements.
- Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and vehicle diagnostics.
- Previous experience in workshop management or supervisory role.
- Ability to schedule and prioritize repairs and maintenance tasks to ensure minimal downtime for farm operations.
- Inventory management skills to maintain necessary spare parts and tools.
- Proficiency in using a wide range of tools and equipment for vehicle and equipment repair.
- Welding and fabrication skills for custom modifications and repairs.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and practices, ensuring a safe working environment for the team.
- Ability to adhere to environmental and safety standards for the disposal of hazardous materials.
- Strong problem-solving abilities to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues quickly and efficiently.
- Creative solutions for repairing older or custom-made farm equipment.
- Leadership skills to manage a team of mechanics and assistants in the workshop.
- Provide training and guidance to junior mechanics.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repairs for each piece of equipment.
- Prepare reports on the workshop’s performance and expenses.
- Effective communication skills to interact with farm staff, suppliers, and contractors.
- Ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical personnel.
- Zulu or Sotho language skills will be an advantage
- Efficiently manage time and resources to meet repair deadlines and prevent equipment downtime.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual tasks, including lifting heavy parts and equipment.
- Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons or in emergency repair situations.
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record to operate farm vehicles for testing and transportation.
- Strong problem-solving abilities to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues quickly and efficiently.
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with farm personnel
- Familiarity with various types and sizes of farm equipment, their specifications, and common maintenance issues.
- Ability to manage the workshop’s budget effectively, controlling costs and expenses.
- Adapt to changing farm equipment and technology, staying up-to-date with industry trends and advancements.
