JUNIOR / TRAINEE DAIRY MANAGER – FM2082

George / Wilderness Area – Western Cape:  Our client is seeking a motivated Junior/Trainee Dairy Farm Manager to join their team and develop their skills in managing a dairy operation.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for dairy farming to learn and grow under the guidance of experienced managers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Agricultural Diploma/Degree or relevant qualification advantageous.
  • Minimum 1 year of dairy farming experience or relevant exposure through internships/traineeships.
  • Basic understanding of pasture management and willingness to learn rotational grazing systems.
  • Exposure to rotary dairy systems advantageous.
  • Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and a passion for working with animals.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to follow established systems.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and overtime when required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assist in managing and monitoring the milking process to ensure optimal milk quality and adherence to hygiene standards. Learn the proper procedures for machine maintenance and tank cleaning.
  • Participate in monitoring the herd’s health and well-being, including assisting with feeding schedules, cow comfort, and identifying early signs of illness or stress. Support the AI (Artificial Insemination) process and gain exposure to breeding strategies.
  • Gain hands-on experience in managing young stock, including feeding, health checks, and maintaining clean and comfortable housing for calves. Play an active role during calving seasons.
  • Work alongside the team to manage pasture rotation, irrigation systems, and soil health. Contribute to achieving optimal grass growth and effective grazing plans.
  • Learn to oversee farm assets, assist with setting maintenance schedules, and ensure equipment and facilities remain in good working order.
  • Support daily operations by working closely with team members and supervisors to implement best practices, meet deadlines, and improve efficiency.
  • Take part in training sessions and actively seek opportunities to expand knowledge in dairy farming systems, animal nutrition, and farm management.
