Coligny Area – North West: Our client is looking for a Senior Diesel Mechanic to join the team.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified diesel mechanic and or trade test certificates
- Minimum 5 to 8 years practical diesel mechanic experience on a farm
- Relevant certifications in vehicles, implements and equipment repair.
- Proven experience as a mechanic with knowledge and experience in diagnosing and repairing various types of vehicles, implements and equipment, including trucks (Fuso), tractors (John Deere/ Case/ New Holland/ Deutz/ Flat), vans, telehandlers, gators, JCBs etc.
- Strong knowledge and experience of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and vehicle diagnostics
- Within 6 months, properly know and apply all operating equipment and vehicle manuals.
- Ability to schedule and prioritize repairs and maintenance to ensure minimal downtime for farming operations.
- Professional and safe use of a wide variety of tools and equipment for vehicle, implement and equipment repair works.
- Welding and fabrication skills for modifications and repairs
- Knowledge of safety regulations and practices, and accordingly create a safe working environment for all employees.
- Ability to accurately follow environmental and safety standards regarding toxins.
- Strong problem-solving ability to diagnose complex mechanical problems and solve them quickly and effectively.
- Creative solutions to restore older or self-made farm equipment.
- To be able to give training and guidance to junior mechanics and assistant mechanics.
- Strong leadership qualities and must be able to work very closely in a direct team with the rest of the farm.
- Daily accurate record keeping and supply to managing director and designated farm manager of general mechanical practice in farming.
- Daily inspection of all agricultural vehicles and equipment, the ability to recognize mechanical problems immediately and act preventively, in order to prevent further damage.
- Maintain detailed reports of maintenance and repairs for each vehicle, implement or equipment on a daily basis.
- Good computer skills
- Ability to explain complex technical problem to non-technical personnel.
- Physical fitness and stamina to be able to do physical tasks, including lifting heavy parts and equipment.
- At all times, the company’s (employer’s) best interests in relation to finance, general mechanical operations, effective and productive time management and pursuing loyalty.
- Must be prepared to execute implemented systems, established channels and related administration on a daily basis.
- Demonstrable capacity to adapt and thrive focused on the company.
- Valid code EC driving license with clean driving and criminal record.
- Good verbal and written communication
- Strong interpersonal, problem handling and solving, and team building qualities.
- Effective and productive time expenditure during duty hours in the mechanical operations of ONLY the employer
- Compliance with logistics rules and control around company vehicles
- Knowledge to implement new agricultural technology and biodiversity.
- Be prepared to work long hours in peak seasons.
- Be prepared to be on duty on weekends according to a shift schedule.
- Maintain good human relations at all levels.
- Confidentiality around all agricultural operational activities and the employer
- loyalty to the employer and promote his best interests on the farm as well as the community.
- Technical manual skills, knowledge, and experience of electric and hand tools
- Control and execution of all safety and health aspects of staff and visitors in terms of Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993
- Ability to function independently with respect to timelines and goals.
- To prove integrity in respect of the employer, his possessions, his business, partners, contractors, fellow colleagues, and all different farming activities of the employer
