Southern Mozambique – Mozambique: Our client is a large scale citrus operation with 270 hectares planted and plans to develop an additional 180 has of citrus with a dedicated packhouse – the operation is based in southern Mozambique close to the Massingir Dam in Gaza Province.
The finance manager will report to the General Manager of the farming unit, with a dotted line to the Group Chief Financial Officer. Responsibilities include:
COMMERCIAL AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Assist with the implementation and monitoring of agreed strategies and operational plans
- Ensure that the company is taking the optimal decisions on procurement, pricing, credit policy and debtors management
- Prepare relevant documentation and forecasts for various sources of funding
MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING AND REPORTING
- Monthly management accounts and commentaries assessed and consolidated
- Financial, statutory and tax returns produced within set deadlines
- Submission of VAT/IVA refund claims and management of the relationship with the fiscal authorities
- Preparing the annual budget and capturing thereof onto the financial reporting platform
- Preparation of IFRS-compliant annual financial statements and ownership of the year-end AFS audit
- Preparation of Board packs and material to present to the Board, as well as attendance at all Board meetings
MANAGEMENT OF WORKING CAPITAL, CASH FLOW and TREASURY MATTERS
- Keeping the cash flow dynamic and within agreed bounds
- Optimising working capital and closely monitoring cash flow on a weekly, monthly and annual basis
- Negotiations of loans and asset finance where appropriate and approved by the Group
INTERNAL PROCESSES AND CONTROLS
- Management of the payroll administration function, ensuring salaries and wages are paid accurately and on time.
- Management of the bank payments processes including additions and terminations of users, granting of user access rights and authorisation limits, opening and closing of bank accounts, and release of payments
- Ensure all GL reconciliations are prepared and reviewed
- Ensure the fixed asset register is properly maintained
IT and ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING
- Development and running of an ERP or coherent farming and packhouse admin platform which is compliant with local regulations
- Development and adherence to sound finance and admin control SOPs
REGULATORY ISSUES
- Registration of all shareholder funds with the central bank
- Compliance with all group audit requirements and timings as well as regulatory and good business compliance issues
- Interaction with lawyers, financial institutions and the tax authorities
The successful candidate must possess the following:
- Proven track record in running a Medium Size Enterprise set of local and international accounts
- An ability to understand the legal and regulatory framework in Mozambique
- Experience in working in a multi-currency environment
- At least 5 years’ experience as a Finance Manager, ideally in an agricultural or agri-processing sector
- Qualification in one of the accounting disciplines
- A good communicator to the Executive on managerial and financial issues
- A grittiness to get things done in an ethical and practical manner – a good finisher
- A team player but with the capacity for own initiative, problem solving and further development
- A good working knowledge of Portuguese and/or the capacity to develop satisfactory language skills to operate in Mozambique
- An ability to travel, both to Maputo to cover regulatory and banking issues as well as port and export processes. Travel is also expected in the region as this is part of a large regional orchard business with operations in Zambia and South Africa.
